Inviting a creative and inspired Landscape Gardener to design, manage, maintain and deeply care for our gardens at our pioneering retreat and wellbeing centre in Somerset

About 42 Acres

Welcome to 42 Acres  – creating space to explore our connection with nature, self, and others.

Currently operating in the UK, we are home to a stunning farmhouse estate alongside an experimental, organic working farm in Somerset.  We have a clear philosophy, focused on biodiversity, inner transformation, and collaboration.  Everything we do is intended to support the wellbeing of self, nature and others. This is an exciting time for our organisation as we are expanding over the next 12 months to a larger landscape and guest capacity.

The Role

We benefit from beautiful walled gardens and magical pathways, which need some TLC and expansion. We are looking for an inspired gardener to support the land in order to look, smell, and feel magical!

This role is focused primarily on Designing, Implementing and Managing the Gardens in alignment with our philosophy.  Although very autonomous, you will be working alongside the land team.

Although every role makes up part of the whole and often we as a team are asked to chip into areas that fall beyond our “role,” you can expect your focus to be on the following,

  1. Leadership & Management (20%)

You will be:

  • accountable for Designing, Maintaining and Managing the Gardens and Landscape around the living areas
  • overseeing any temporary support, contractors or future garden team members
  • ensuring the gardens are deeply cared for
  • ensuring no chemical use and procuring only from aligned suppliers
  • ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to

  1. Design, Deliver, Develop (75%)

You’ll also be accountable for:

  • designing and maintaining  the gardens
  • maintaining the walking paths
  • expanding the landscaped garden areas
  • supporting the land team with the overall land maintenance, particularly on weekends
  • sourcing and planting of plants and shrubs

  1. Document & Report (5%)

In addition, you’ll also be:

  • working to mutually agreed budgets
  • researching the industry for new ideas and innovations

What would support both you & us

  • A deep knowledge about gardening and landscape design
  • Relevant technical skills
  • Familiar with hospitality and guests onsite
  • A minimum 5 years experience
  • Strong and healthy physical condition as this is a physical role
  • The ability and desire to work weekends
  • The legal right to work in the UK
  • A fluent grasp of written and spoken English
  • The owner of a vehicle, with a current driver’s license

What we can offer

This is a permanent full-time role, and your salary will be competitive and based on your previous experience.  You will also have access to a discretionary bonus based on overall performance, and specific targets.  We run the space 52 weeks a year and will encourage you to take holidays in between the busy programme periods to make sure you have time to recharge.

In addition, you will have:

  • direct access to our Board and their extensive global networks
  • access to personal development programmes all year round
  • contact with the industry’s leading practitioners, facilitators, and thought leaders

Although this is an important role, and we are ready to take our time in aligning with the right person, we would like your application to be with us no later than July 31st, 2020

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you
